MS Science Olympics:

April 13, 2012 @ 9:00 - 2:00 at GSIS

Please make comments on anything in yellow

Text is red is already decided.

Below are the teachers involved in KAIAC-MS Science Olympics (please email Jay Reimer if changes need to be made to this list.)

Student number per school?

  • each team should be 4 or less (ideally we want all students engaged, so smaller teams will be busier)  Note: Each year we have "couples" show up on teams.  If both are science enthusiasts then that is great, but if they are coming just to "spend time together" can you please leave one of them at home to keep the timbre of the event one of engagement in the science sense rather than the romantic sense :)
  • Each school will have up to 4 teams.
  • Each team should include 4 members (this way everyone will have task to do and we can keep it more engaging.)
  • The goal is that Every team should participate in every event.

Hey all,

I just want to confirm how many groups there will be at each session for the day. I'm currently set for 5 stations.

Yes, each school will be bringing 4 teams (there was some ambiguity about that), so with 4 school participating, that will be 4 teams from 4 schools at each event. That means 4 stations is enough. Maybe bring enough material for one extra in case of loss, breaking etc. Of course 6 stations' material will cover that as well!

Thanks to everyone for a great day! This event has a 4 year history now, after being started at SIS in 2008-2009 by Derek ______. KIS kindly hosted it for two years following that and this year at GSIS. You all have done a wonderful job preparing kids; the students seemed to have a great time.

Thanks so much to all of you!

Thanks for all your hard work organizing the day. It seemed to all go off without a hitch.

For next year it doesn't look like SIS will have the facilities to host the event (unless it's on a Saturday). SIS has knocked down the main gym and the plan is to have a new building completed in December. However I'd hate to commit our team at this point to hosting the event as construction can be unpredictable.

If we are going to have pre-build categories next year, then it would be great to have the details posted as early as January. We usually aren't able to meet with teams more than once a week and often there are activities that prevent them from taking place. We found 2 months a bit to short of a window.

Let's keep the enthusiasm going for next year!

Have a great summer everyone.
